We continue our study of the Holocaust this week. Students will be participating in an online web quest relating to the Holocaust. The document below contains both the questions and the corresponding links. Students will record their answers in a Google Doc and submit the document by Friday 1/11.
Grade 6 Ivrit class

New Project for grade 7
I am happy to announce the launch of the new project in my Grade 7 Hebrew class. The project is called “Haifa’s pollution – is there a solution?.
Haifa’s crude oil refineries have led to increases in reported cancer cases each year in the city. Students have been asked to research the history of the refinery towers and the reasons why they were built. Through a “project-based learning” approach, students will conduct research about the air pollution in the Haifa Bay. They will investigate the source of the high air pollution and the high morbidity rate. They will interview people who live in that area, speak with environmentalists and will try to come up with solutions to solve the problem!
As parents in Grade 7 know, this project was launched last Saturday night in my house, while sitting around the dinner table and discussing the situation. The children watched a PowerPoint presentation showing the consequences of the air pollution for Haifa’s Bay residents. On Thursday, our class visited the library for a mini-workshop on research skills from Brigitte Ruel, our school’s librarian. It is great to see the class so involved and enthusiastic about the new project!
Ms. Ruel provided a list of “safe sites” for the students to begin their research. I am happy to provide it below for anyone who may be interested:

Grade 8: WWI/Treaty of Versailles Assignment Due Wednesday 12/5
Students are being asked to complete a reading comprehension/two viewpoints graphic organizer assignment. This assignment is based on the WWI/Treaty of Versailles note packet that we have spent the last four classes reviewing.
Grade 8: Jewish Studies Update
As we continue to study and analyze the various components of the Grade 8 Jewish Studies curriculum, this week we are beginning to set up the Holocaust. Rather than diving directly into the start of the Holocaust, the Grade 8 class is learning about WWI. This foundation will play a very important role in understanding the historical context in which the Holocaust begins.
Attached you will find the WWI/Treaty of Versailles Presentation and Guided Notes Packet. This will be useful for any students that missed any of the notes during class. Students should be reviewing their notes throughout the week.
Grade 8: Anti-Semitism Reflection
Attached you will find the instructions for the Anti-Semitism Reflection Assignment. This assignment is due on Wednesday, November 14th, 2018.
Hebrew Grammar
Grade 8 students are recently reviewing the Parts of Speech that we have learned in the last few years. The following PowerPoint presentation has a great deal of information. I encourage students to practice at home.
