//The students have been presenting their projects this week. One presentation focused on Taanit Esther. After the student explained the laws of fasting, she gave everyone a marshmallow and told them not to eat if for a while. She spoke about hunger and how we need to appreciate how fortunate we are to have food and a place to live.
Today, another student presented the laws of Lag B’omer. She differentiated between Israel and the rest of the world.
//On Thursday, my wonderful Grade 7 students presented their VR projects on Tzfat. I’m so very proud of their work and dedication towards this project.
Unfortunately you aren’t able to watch them through the special goggles, just know it looks really awesome through there.

//Grade 6 continues to work on the Luach (Calendar Project). Many of the students understand that certain customs and Jewish laws differ depending on where you celebrate the Chagim.
//The students are halfway through the Middot/Character project. Some of the students decided to focus on negative character traits which some of our ancestors modeled. (Jacob favoring Joseph, Rebecca deceiving her husband Isaac).

Today we concluded with our final 2 presentations. Both focused on the ethics of war and the role of the army in both North America and Israel.
There was a lively debate determining if torturing terrorists was an acceptable practice.
//The students this week have been working diligently on the Character Trait Assignment. The students are becoming more familiar with our Jewish Ancestors from the Tanach. The students need to find source material and examples of how our ancestors represent Jewish Values.
//This week Grade 6 worked on their holiday assignment. Many of the students know about the Chagim (holidays) but are not aware where the laws, customs, and traditions are derived from. We introduced the Shulchan Aruch, Rambam, and other Talmudic type sources.
The students will be presenting their findings to the whole class.
//A great week with the 8th grade. We continued with our Talmudic Case study presentations. The students presented case studies that focused on the moral dilemma of working for a cigarette company and if the Orthodox Yeshiva should ordain a homosexual student.
I want to thank all the Rabbis in the community for working with our students.
//We opened the week by a Hebrew conversation about what students did in the Hannukah Holiday. During the week we played memory games to refresh our vocabulary, we read text from our textbook, translated it and answered a set of questions about it. Later on, we had two activities of group vocabulary practice and a competitive game of reading comprehension based on the text we learned earlier.
At the end of the week, the students recorded and sent a Hebrew happy birthday and feel better notes to peers who missed school on Friday.
