David Kogut

David is a dedicated and experienced Jewish educator who believes that inspiring the Jewish youth of today will secure a Jewish future for tomorrow. David is a Jewish studies teacher with 15 years experience working in Jewish day schools who joined the OJCS family at the end of the 2023-24 school year and is now a full time teacher.

David was born in Montreal and moved to Seattle in 2009. David taught at the Seattle Hebrew Academy for 12 years, as the music teacher, programs coordinator and Jewish studies teacher. David is a graduate of the Hebrew Academy high school in Montreal. He graduated from Dawson College in social sciences, Concordia university with a bachelors in psychology and finished his Masters of Jewish education and administration at the Azrieli program at Yeshiva University. David also is an alumni of Yeshivat Ohr Somayach in Jerusalem. David teaches Bar and Bat Mitzvah lessons in his spare time and has been training students for their B’nei Mitzvahs for over 25 years and currently works with B’nei Mitzvah students at Machzikei Hadas, the shul he regularly attends. David currently teaches Rabbinics/Talmud to the Middle School students at OJCS.

David moved to Ottawa with his family in the summer of 2021 and lives in the Craig Henry neighbourhood with his three children and his dog. He worked at The Torah Day School of Ottawa for 3 years before making the move to OJCS. David is a huge hockey fan and encyclopedia of hockey knowledge. He enjoys going to hockey games to root for his favorite teams, the Montreal Canadiens and the Seattle Kraken. David also plays several instruments and enjoys writing and recording music in his spare time.
