Grade 6: Learning From The Best

Our class had the opportunity to listen and participate in three incredible presentations today. OJCS had three visitors from Israel, each with an interesting experience to share. We learned about how the Passover Haggadah Graphic Novel was created. Erez taught our class how to make 2-D drawings come to life. Students had the opportunity to create their own 3-D caricature versions of Pharaoh and Moses. The class also participated in a discussion about the stories of Passover with Rabbi Aaron. The Rabbi told three stories and provided students with an opportunity to create connections to their own lives. Lastly, Leah taught our class about how Israel has taken a stand to provide support for refugees.

Grade 7: Take A Look Through Our Lens

For the last few weeks our class, the Grade 7 students have been preparing for the TIPES Lego Challenge. This challenge occurred last Thursday which was a blast! We played with the students in our different lego challenges that we prepared. These challenges included: creating the tallest structures, strongest, most creative etc. It was really important for us to bond with the students at TIPES being that we all live in the same building! We were very proud as we facilitated an act of gemilut hasadim. We learned about the importance of treating others with respect and doing our part to create acts of loving kindness. The day turned out amazing and exciting. We are so excited for our next activity with them, which is next Thursday! We can’t wait for more interactions with TIPES in the future!

Grade 8: Current Event Due Thursday 4/4 + Holocaust Unit Test Wednesday 4/10

Yesterday we finished our Holocaust Unit. There will be a Holocaust Unit Test on Wednesday, April 10th. Students are being given a review document to aid in their preparation. The rest of the year we will focus on studying and understanding the differences between the various denominations of Judaism. We will also spend a significant period of time learning about the State of Israel and contemporary issues that Israelis face. Additionally, students are being asked to prepare a current event relating to Israel for this Thursday’s class.
